I haven’t seen a movie in years. I don’t like the bright screen, the manipulative music, the formulaic plots. I don’t like watching actors play make believe. But I don’t care if other people watch them; that’s their problem. Flann O’Brien put it well, in “The Third Policeman”:
“Did you ever happen to visit the cinematograph in your travels?”
“Never,” I answered humbly, “but I believe it is a dark quarter and little can be seen at all except the photographs on the wall.”
