I’ve often performed this song on the ukulele. I recorded it with an obbligato for baritone uke; in performance, David Gold has joined me on viola. Here’s how it begins:

Clap clap clap clap clap.
So clever! Best lullaby I have ever heard. Tried to play it to my kids but I’m not sure chords like G7aug really exist(?!)

You’ve never heard of an augmented chord? You just sharp the 5th…

Thanks, Doug. I’m mostly a double bass guy; new to uke chords. Couldn’t find G7aug in my chord book. Couldn’t find it online either. Anyway, great song.

Huh — well, if you Google G7aug and ukulele, you’ll get some hits. But, anyway, one fingering is 0312. And it’s nice to hear that you enjoy the song!

Hi,
Just heard Bill Irwin do this song (a capella, i.e. with his hat on) and would love to find complete lyrics or sheet music or a recording or something….?
Really lovely and funny.
I’m not familiar with your work at all – what sorts of things do you do?

Jeff — Well, this site is an archive of my work. I’m a writer and composer; among other things I wrote music for several of Bill’s shows, and spent years touring with him. I’m glad to hear the song went well!
